Environmental Management Promotion System

As environmental policies and regulations are strengthened and stakeholder awareness are aroused amidst the global climate crisis, the demand for companies to fulfill their environmental responsibilities is increasing. Samil Spinning Co., Ltd. strives to minimize environmental impact throughout the entire business process and in the process of providing products and services in order to contribute to mitigating environmental problems.

Response to Climate Change

Energy-saving activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Samil Spinning Co., Ltd. is focusing on minimizing energy waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through various activities such as applying energy saving facilities to business sites, improving existing facilities, and conducting research and development of new technologies. In 2014, the company established a solar power plant with a capacity of 1,459.62 kW to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and is producing 1,836,000kWh of eco-friendly energy annually (CO2 reduction: 857,570 kg per year). In 2018, the company completed a comprehensive energy management system by building a 5MWh ESS facility. In addition, Samil Spinning Co., Ltd. installs inverters on all equipment motors within the business site to reduce energy consumption, minimizes air conditioner operation by setting the appropriate temperature to 26℃ when using air conditioners, and limits the use of personal air conditioners. In addition, we are actively implementing energy-saving activities such as automatically turning off lights outside of business hours and replacing all lights in business sites such as factories and offices with LED lamps, while encouraging employees to participate in energy-saving efforts.

Resource Usage and Waste Management

Waste generation management

In the yarn production process of the cotton spinning industry, raw and subsidiary materials such as cotton, rayon, and aramid are used, and more than 90% of recycled cotton from raw materials is recycled through our company and other cotton spinning companies. Meanwhile, polluted raw cotton and synthetic resin wastes that cannot be recycled are disposed in accordance with legal procedures such as those regulating recycling, incineration, and landfill by entrusting specialized companies with verified treatment capabilities.

Water and Effluent Management

Water usage

Samil Spinning Co., Ltd. does not use industrial water in its work process and provides tap water for showers and toilets for workers to enhance their welfare. The company regularly measures and manages water supply usage to figure out water usage within business sites, and seeks to reduce water usage in real life.

Effluents and water pollution management

Since Samil Spinning Co., Ltd. does not use any water in its work process, it does not generate any effluents. In the case of sewage, the company is equipped with our own sewage treatment facility and manage sewage according to our own standards that are more stringent than those required by related laws such as the Water Environment Conservation Act. The company has established its own internal standards that are stricter than the legal discharge standards applied to its business sites, and in compliance with such internal regulations, it treats wastewater on its own until the amount of wastewater reduces to 30% of the permitted discharge standards before directly discharging it. In addition, the company installs and operates a sewage treatment facility for wastewater generating sites, and conducts regular water quality inspections to strictly manage the quality of discharged water.

Air Pollution

Air pollutant management

Samil Spinning Co., Ltd. complies with laws and regulations under the Total Air Pollutant Emissions Management System, and manages air pollutant emissions by establishing stricter company-wide standards than legal standards to improve the air environment of the local community. For dust generated from the mixing (sorting) facility within the business site, the company stringently manages such dust by setting the internal air pollution. In addition, it conducts atmospheric environment measurement twice a year through a company specializing in air quality measurement and reports the results to local governments. The company replaces the rotary filter of the dust collection facility every year to actively comply with the regulations on the reduction of fine dust and dust caused by air pollution such as ultrafine dust. In addition, the company is seeking various ways to reduce air pollutant emissions from business sites through active investments such as installation of air pollutant reduction facilities and fuel conversion of combustion facilities.
